Notes
The Endurance sounding rocket will launch in May 2022, from Ny Alesund, reaching an altitude of >800 km. The scientific objective of the mission is to measure the Earth’s ambipolar electric field, thought to play a role in driving the polar wind which infuses heavy ions into Earth's magnetosphere. EISCAT will play two roles in the sounding rocket experiment. The first is to measure the local ionospheric parameters to support the ionospheric modelling required to calculate the ambipolar field, and the second is to provide information on whether the launch will be on open field lines, and thus provide a go/no-go for launch. The intention is for the following configuration: UHF at low elevation with a northward azimuthal scan ESR 32m at low elevation with a southward azimuthal scan ESR 42m to measure local parameters for comparison All radars running a code with good range coverage to optimize scan coverage and altitude on the 42m.
