EISCAT Space Debris Measurements at the Svalbard Radar in IPY 2007-2008
Status
-
The EISCAT IPY space debris campaign has been finished.
-
The first continuous 24-hour dataset in the campaign is from 13-March 2007,
the last continuous 24-hour dataset is from 10-Feb-2008. During this interval,
the debris measurement system at ESR was active for 5060 hours. The standard analysis
reported 239 000 unique events. From that set, a subset of 101 days with 95000 events
is now publicly available in numerical form (below).

Background
-
Refer to this
readme and
the raport
EISCAT Space Debris 2006
for a system description. Due
to strong ionospheric clutter, a high spatial
density of debris objects due to
a satellite breakup,
and, for debris measurements, somewhat non-optimal
radar transmission scheme, larger-than-normal
uncertainty remains in all measured parameters.

See
EISCAT Space Debris page for info about our earlier, and later, measurements.
