Notes
The primary objective of our project is to explore connections between particle precipitation and direct changes in ozone in the upper stratosphere. A campaign of >20 balloon flights, launched from Sodankylä, Finland, will carry in-situ particle detectors to altitudes around 35km. The balloon payload will contain detectors for energetic particles and ozone, along with other ancillary measurements. To be carried out between 6th March and 20th April, 2023, the flights will be timed to coincide with any strong geomagnetic/solar activity. Supporting observations from EISCAT will provide useful context for the balloon observations in terms of co-located particle precipitation signatures.
