Notes
EISCAT experiment in support of the sounding rocket campaign CREX-2, which is part of the Cusp Grand Challenge Initiative (Cusp GCI), a multi-country collaboration (Norway, US, UK, Japan) to combine several rocket experiments and other measurements to provide one of the most comprehensive cusp ionosphere measurements to date. See more information: https://www.andoyaspace.no/the-grand-challenge-initiative/ It’s overall science aim is to investigate neutral and plasma dynamics associated with the cusp. C-REX 2 will be launched from Andøya Space Center with a North-West trajectory. It carries several instruments to provide in-situ measurements of the ionosphere along the trajectory. In addition, a number of Barium and Strontium tracer gas clouds will be ejected to follow ion and neutral gas motion that will be triangulated by ground and airplane cameras. The ESR radars will provide larger sale, contextual ionospheric parameters with a 3-point scan using the 32m dish, and a field-aligned beam using the 42m dish. In addition, other ground instrumentation will include several optical cameras (at both the KHO and Ny Ålesund) and the SCANDI wide-field Fabry-Perot Interferometer (also at KHO). The launch time will shift slightly during the window and we will notify EISCAT of any changes / cancellations in line with the EISCAT policy.
